Obituary of Steen Brink Uggerslev

April 26, 1944 – Esbjerg, Denmark

August 1, 2022 - Black Diamond, Alberta

Steen Uggerslev passed away peacefully on August 1, 2022 at the age of 78 at the Oilfields Hospital in Black Diamond after declining health for the past number of years.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carol, his daughters Karen (Chad) Robinson, and Krista (Neil) Fassina, as well as Carol’s Mom Leona Graham, and his extended Danish family. He was the proud Papa of five grandchildren, Jack and Anna Robinson, Lilli and Chase Fassina, and Cohen Uggerslev. He was predeceased by his son Brett (Cohen’s Dad), and his parents, Lilli and Arne Uggerslev.

Steen was born in Esbjerg, Denmark and came with his family to Calgary at the age of 9. He began his 34-year career with Cominco/Agrium the same month he and Carol married. Steen was well respected in the industry. He was known for his ethics and strong values. Many still talk about the sizable deals made on a handshake in that era. His career led to many lifelong friendships and many great travel opportunities. Close friends often referred to him as “Our Great Dane” and at 6’5” he came by that nickname honestly. In the late 60s, Steen, along with family and friends, built a cabin at Sylvan Lake. This became a special place for weekends and holidays. Many happy memories were made around the campfire, out on the water and enjoying family time which was the most important thing to Steen.

Steen’s love of travel took him to many wonderful locations including Africa, S. America, Australia, New Zealand, across the U.S., Canada, and to many European countries. He was in his element when planning a trip or sharing stories and photos from places he’d visited. While living on the West Coast he took up sailing and captained many adventurous excursions through the Gulf and San Juan Islands with fellow adventurers. He loved living in the country near Okotoks and also spending time over the last 25 years in Scottsdale, AZ.

Following Steen’s wishes, a private family gathering will be held to celebrate his life and scatter his ashes in his favorite place. We ask that you hold your family close and share a story and a toast. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here. ‘In Steen’s honour and memory, ‘Skoal!’
