Obituary of Rena Walters

Rena LaVern Walters (nee Sillito), beloved wife of David Alan Walters, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, August 1, 2022, at the age of 80 years.

 

Rena was born in Bassano, AB, on June 23, 1942. She graduated from the Western Canada High School in Calgary. Rena married David on December 1, 1962, in Calgary, AB, and Temple Marriage and Sealing was performed on November 27, 1976, in Cardston, AB. She was a proud member of the Springbank Heritage Club and the Good Sam RV Club. Her first adult job was working for the Hinde and Dauch Paper Company. She worked as a homemaker and would eventually retire from the Calgary School Board as a secretary. Rena had a passion for knitting, and achieved Master Hand Knitter status from TKGA. Rena enjoyed music, crocheting, tatting, Swedish weaving, genealogy, camping, spending time with family, RV touring and ocean cruises.

 

Besides her loving husband David Walters, Rena is survived by her two daughters, Bonnie Deanne McKinnon of Calgary, and Janice Darlene and (Dale) Loubert of Calgary; son Michael David Walters of Canmore, four grandchildren, Spencer McKinnon of Calgary, Katrina McKinnon and (Matt Barnes) of Red Deer, Tatiana and (Waqas) Waris of Regina, SK, and KC Walters of Calgary; and one great-granddaughter Safiya Waris of Regina, SK. Rena is also survived by her three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Rexall Wade Sillito of Calgary, Orrin Lloyd and (Lola) Sillito of Calgary, and Joseph Boyd and (Terry) Sillito of South Jordan, UT, USA; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

 

Rena was predeceased by her mother Leatha Utahana (nee Johnson) Sillito in 1946, father Rexall James Sillito in 1977, and brother Roy Elwood Sillito in 1984.

Funeral Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - West Stake Centre (6560 Silver Springs Crescent N.W., Calgary, AB) on Monday, August 8, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. For friends and family unable to attend in person, the Service will be live-streamed through this link: https://zoom.us/j/92284441390. Graveside to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery.
