Obituary of Juliette Sophie Cornette

August 27, 1923 – Brussels, Belgium

August 4, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Juliette Cornette of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2022, just three weeks shy of her 99th Birthday.

Juliette was born in a small town on the outskirts of Brussels, Belgium, as a child she experienced living through a world depression and as a teen she lived through all that was WWII. After the war, she trained as a seamstress. She also met a lovely young man at a dance, named Julien Cornette. They married in 1946, and soon after they had two children, a girl and a boy who both died in infancy. In 1951 they immigrated to Canada to start a new life and family.

Before being affected by arthritis, Juliette was an accomplished needleworker adept at sewing, knitting, needlepoint and petit-point. Her Belgium heritage contributed to her being a wonderful cook and baker. She took great pride in creating a comfortable home.

Camping and tenting evolved into RVing, Juliette and Julien enjoyed many RV trips over the years, exploring BC, Alberta and the U.S.

Juliette is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Fran (Frances) and Robert Kirkham and her only grandchild Katie (Katherine) Kirkham and her partner John Kotowski.

Juliette was predeceased by her infant daughter in 1947, infant son in 1949. In 1999 after 53 years of marriage, her loving husband Julien passed away. She is also predeceased by her father Jules in 1979, mother Franceska in 1996, her special aunt Marianne in 1982 and her uncle John in 1969 as well as many other relatives in Belgium. She also mourned the loss of her special friend, her yorkie, Chico.

A Private Family Gathering will be held at a later date. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.

We would like to thank all of those that have cared for Juliette over the years, in particular the staff of Southwood Intercare.
