Del Bannerman

Obituary of Del Bannerman

July 18, 1940 – August 11, 2022

Adela “Del” Bannerman (nee Quaite) of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 11, 2022, at the age of 82 years.

Del was born in Pouce Coupe, BC, on July 18, 1940. She was one of the Matriarchs of the Bannerman/Clark Christmas Day Dinner for thirty years, in memory of her two sons whom she missed every day. She did all the fundraising for the dinner, which made it even possible to continue it.

Del was a passionate, compassionate, remarkable, joyful, and beautiful woman. She would not think twice before helping someone out before helping herself. She had great leadership and love that touched many guests, fellow coworkers, donors, volunteers, and family. She was very passionate about making the world a better place and was not afraid to speak up. She won the Women of Vison award in 2001 for Education and Social Action and worked with grief recovery groups. Those that know Del well, know how much she enjoyed reading every minute she could. She had a great sense of humour and liked to make people laugh or smile right up to the end. As a strong woman of faith, she became a lay minister. Nothing was more important than her family. She loved her family dearly and they loved her. Sometimes having daily calls with some of her grandchildren, she cherished every minute she spent with them.

Living a life of travel, she adventured to over thirty-five countries. In some instances, she would be working alongside her husband in India with the dying and in Haiti. Del worked for many years at Air Canada in management.  She went back to school to get her degree in Fund Development. She then became Housing Manager to the Mustard Seed and helped build and start many programs. She quickly moved up to the Director of Development.  The last job she worked at was FCJ Christian Life Center as Fund Development and was a mentor to many people in different nonprofits on Fund Development, including Agape Hospice. This was her calling to be able to help people and she had a great listening ear.

Heaven is getting an Angel!

Del leaves behind her three loving daughters, Paula (Gord), Brenda (Joe), Wendy; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Gertie Clark, and families.

Besides her loving husband, John Douglas Bannerman (February 23, 2018), Del was predeceased by two sons, John, and Pat (February 26, 1982); mother, Adela Irene Quaite (September 25, 2008), and father, Jack Quaite (May 10, 1975).
