Vernon Rehbein

Obituary of Vernon Arthur Rehbein

November 11, 1933 – Central Butte, Saskatchewan

August 10, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

Vernon Rehbein, beloved husband of Jeanne Rehbein (nee Broughton) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at the age of 88 years.

Vern leaves his wife Jeanne and his children Barry and Bonnie (Allan), cherished grandchildren Austin, Abby, Payton, and Kendall, along with Jeanne’s children Heather and Kevin (Jodie).

Vern was the youngest of seven children. The family moved to the orchard property in Kelowna when Vern was young. Immediately after high school he enrolled in the Royal Canadian Air Force (at the age of seventeen) and became a skilled mechanic. Settling in Calgary, he worked in the airline industry for CPA and later established his own aircraft repair business.  He worked in the heavy-duty transportation industry for many years, finally retiring from Economy Carriers.

He was a fixer, a problem solver, and an extraordinary mechanic. Once he was on a task, he was on it to completion and properly so. He shared his skills with youths as a Scout Leader for years and, after retirement he very much enjoyed his volunteer work with The Hangar Flight Museum.

Vern’s intelligence, common sense, practicality, frankness, humour, and kindness will be kept in the memories and hearts of those who knew him.

Cremation has taken place, and as per Vern’s wishes there will be no funeral. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to The Hangar Flight Museum, (5629 McCall Way NE, Calgary, T2E 8A5).

Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared with Vern’s family here.

In living memory of Vern, a tree will be planted in the Ann and Sandy Conservation Area by McGinnis and Holloway Funeral Homes, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB T2X 3J3, Telephone: 403- 256-9575.
