Obituary of Madeleine Marie Dennison

July 12, 1934 - Muskeg Lake, Saskatchewan

August 14, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

 

Madeleine Dennison beloved mother and grandmother, passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2022, at the age of 88 years.

 

Madeleine attended St. Michael's Residential School and Stobart High School, Duck Lake, Saskatchewan, and graduated from Saskatoon City Hospital as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). She worked as a nurse, teacher, and University Professor (University of Berkley, CA, USA).  A proud member of Muskeg Lake Cree Nation, she provided guidance as a Cree-speaking Elder. Madeleine married Theodore “Ted” Dennison in 1959 and together they had two daughters. Madeleine accomplished much through her life and was particularly proud of her children, grandchildren, and her Cree heritage. Madeleine enjoyed golf, traveling, singing, attending family gatherings, and being informed on current affairs and Indigenous Knowledge. She will be most remembered for her kindness, sense of humour, Devotion to God and the Catholic Faith, and her love of family and friends.

 

Madeleine is survived by her sisters Eva Caroline Shaw and Anna Marjorie Coulter, and brother Glenn (Roberta) Greyeyes; daughters Carol Greyeyes and Marcella Dennison; grandchildren Jarita Greyeyes, Lauren Chapman, Raevyn Gopher and Joseph Gopher, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

 

Madeleine was predeceased by her daughter Cheryl Renee Chapman, parents Caroline Greyeyes (nee Lafond) and Joseph Greyeyes, brothers Hubert Greyeyes and Cecil Greyeyes, and sisters Therese Kivimaki and Georgeleine Wilson.

 

Special thanks to Bow View Manor staff and caregivers, Dr. Jed Shimizu, and to Muskeg Lake Cree Nation, for all the love and support given to Madeleine and family.

 

The funeral mass and internment of ashes will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at Our Lady of Guadeloupe Church, Muskeg Lake, Saskatchewan. A light lunch will follow at the Leask Legion, Sk. Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
