Obituary of Angela Héroux

October 8, 1928 – Sudbury, Ontario

August 16, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

In perfect peace, our matriarch and guiding presence, Angela Pietra Héroux (née Piccinin), died with dignity at her home in Calgary, Alberta after a brief illness.  She was 93 years young, lived a full and productive life, and is now reunited with her beloved Julien, who predeceased her in 2019 after 63 years of marriage.

In her final days, mom was surrounded in the loving embrace of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. There was piano/guitar playing, along with singing and dancing in the house, which brought mom great joy. She was also able to sit in her backyard to enjoy visits with friends, watch her chickadees and squirrels, and take pleasure in her flowers.

Our mom gave true meaning to the word “homemaker”. She approached motherhood and maintaining a thriving household as a vocation, a gift we came to appreciate more fully as we raised our own families. Later, Mom was happiest when in the company of her progeny; she was always interested to learn about their lives, activities, and accomplishments.

Over the years, Angela lived in four provinces (Ontario, British Columbia, Québec, Alberta), and she considered herself lucky to have experienced what each had to offer.  For many years, she hiked, cross-country skied and did aquacise with an energetic group of seniors, which kept her fit and young at heart.

Mom was a woman of many talents.  She learned to play the piano at age 43 and returned to the workforce after 30 years of raising her family and managing a household. Our mom was fluent in three languages, cooked and baked beautifully, sewed our clothes, loved her gardens, enjoyed talking politics, and took notes while watching the news.

Left to mourn mom’s passing but to celebrate a lifetime of memories are her six children: Lynne (Tom) Stewart, Sylvie (Warren Wiberg) Héroux, Diane (Marty) Quinlan, Julie (Leo) Parth, Frédéric Héroux, and Brigitte (Paul) Tinevez; along with fifteen treasured grandchildren: Tiffanie Stewart and Cortney Bialy, Matthew and Andrew McAuley, Kaitlyn and Natalie Quinlan, Douglas, Steven, Stephanie and Gregory Parth, Justin, Benjamin, Samuel and Noah Tinevez, and Isabella Héroux.  GG rejoiced in her four great-grandchildren: Wyatt and Maverick, Anna, and Levi. Angela will be lovingly remembered by her sister Olga McCormack, her sister-in-law Ginette Piccinin; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; as well as the Héroux, Trudel and LeClair families in Québec.  She was predeceased by her dear brother, Aldo Piccinin, in 2013.

Mom was blessed to have been surrounded by thoughtful neighbours, as well as the kind and considerate care of her family physician, Dr. T. Bouchard.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church (1600 Acadia Dr SE, Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Angela’s service streamed live (see below). For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted. Interment in the ancestral plot at Saint-Boniface-de-Shawinigan (Québec) at a later date. Condolences, memories, and photos may also be shared and viewed here

We are blessed, proud and privileged to have had such an extraordinary Mom, grand-maman and GG in our lives.

Loved beyond words; missed beyond measure.

(Victor Hugo)
