Obituary of Fred Ziegler

September 27, 1932 – Kindersley, Saskatchewan

August 17, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Frederick Ziegler, beloved husband of Matilda "Tillie" Ziegler (nee Hofer) of Calgary, AB, was called home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at the age of 89 years.

Fred was born in Kindersley, SK on September 27, 1932. The family moved to Kelowna, BC during World War II as there was plenty of work and then later returned to the family farm in Kindersley. The Ziegler family moved to Medicine Hat, AB around 1950 where he met and later married Tillie Hofer on October 25, 1952. Shortly after their marriage, Fred and Tillie moved to Lethbridge, AB, where their two children were born, Greg and Carol. In 1964, the family moved to Calgary and have lived there ever since.

Fred was a successful salesman, selling automobiles and mobile homes. Fred decided to go into business on his own and started Chinook Mobile Homes. 

Fred loved to worship the Lord and sang in the church choir and several gospel quartets. Family was also important to Fred. Both Fred and Tillie had sisters’ living in Calgary and the three families would celebrate Christmas, New Years, birthdays, and anniversaries together with lots of food, laughter, and games.

Fred also enjoyed golfing and would spend much of his free time playing with Greg. Later it became a family foursome. Fred loved sports and played hockey, baseball, bowling, and curling. He would spend Saturday evenings watching Hockey Night in Canada if he wasn’t at a hockey game. He was also an avid woodworker and created intricate wooden toys and plaques. 

Fred and Tillie loved to travel, and the family would spend summers camping or visiting family. They often went to Kelowna and would go down memory lane of Fred’s childhood. The first airplane trip was to Las Vegas which was a sales achievement award. They vacationed in Fairmont, British Columbia, Phoenix, Hawaii, Florida, Mexico, and Dominican Republic. Fred and Tillie also visited Greg in California and traveled to London and Europe to visit Carol.   

Besides his loving wife, Tillie, Fred is survived by his son Greg (Caroline) of Calgary and Kelowna and daughter Carol of Dallas, TX. 

A Memorial Service will be held at Bethany Chapel (3333 Richardson Way SW, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
