Obituary of Marianne Alice Wilkat

February 16, 1945 – Edmonton, AB
August 20, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Marianne Wilkat of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at the age of 77 years. 

Throughout her life, Marianne didn’t have any acquaintances or associates, everyone she met was instantly a friend. She always had a smile and helping hand, and, in later years, spearheaded, inspired, and was the drive behind numerous organizations and projects focused on the betterment of her community and the people in it. 

She spent decades working on her second passion of genealogy, filling the family tree so far back it (her son jokes) started to mesh with her first passion, anthropology. Despite her endless interests and thirst for knowledge, her greatest love was to travel. And over the span of 60 years, with her loving husband Hank (deceased 2016), and occasionally their son Don (survived by), traveled extensively through Canada, the United States, numerous European countries, several in Central America, the Caribbean, New Zealand, Australia, Peru, Thailand, and Egypt. And yes, everywhere she went, she made new friends. 

Marianne’s life left an indelible impression on everyone she met. By her moving on to now watch over all of us, she will be dearly missed. However, her smile and elan will never be forgotten in the countless memories she gave all her friends. 

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mrs. Wilkat’s service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service.
