Obituary of Patricia (Pat) Anne Irving (nee Vesey)

October 20, 1942 - Red Lake/McKenzie Island, Ontario

August 23, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

Patricia Anne Irving (Vesey) of Calgary, AB passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, after a short battle with cancer at the age of 79 years.

Born on October 20, 1942, in Red Lake, ON. Pat was predeceased by her parents, Dorthea Rebecca (2002) and Percy Archibald (1997) Vesey. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Gail Stuart Irving; her children, Bruce (Jacquie) and Joanne (Michael); and her sister, Bev (Bill). She also leaves behind her beloved grandsons, Evan and Jacob, both of whom brought her immense joy. Although she will miss seeing them follow their dreams and reach their goals, they know that her love and support will always be with them. Pat was also dearly loved by her sister-in-law, Mimi (Jim), brother-in-law, Bruce (Kathy), and nieces and nephews, Steve (Mary), Heather (Guy), Al (Corianne), Kathy (Heber), and Todd (Melissa).

Pat’s talents in sewing and crafting were well known. From cross-stitched baby blankets, wedding dresses and Christmas decorations, to her most recent foray into making pine-needle baskets and mastering the art of pyrography. Those who were gifted with tokens of her craftiness knew they were also receiving a loving piece of Pat herself. Most comfortable in the kitchen, behind her sewing machine, or reading a good book, Pat touched the lives of countless people; from studio kids to basketball teams and snowboarders, to true-blue friends and work-out buddies, her caring and generous nature was felt by all who met and got to know her. Practical to the end, Pat’s “we’ll just deal with it” attitude meant that she wasn’t afraid of death but embraced those around her and spent her final days sharing a chat, a laugh, and many tears with those most important to her. Please remember her whenever popcorn balls are made for Halloween, you are decorating your home for Christmas, a Sunday roast is in the oven (complete with Yorkshire pudding, please and thank you!), or whenever you see a beautiful rose garden or a cluster of Lily of the Valley.

At Pat’s request, no funeral services will be held. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers the family asks that you extend some joy, generosity, or care to those around you. Be it through a donation to a charity of your choice, a chat with a friend in need over coffee, or a simple act of kindness to a stranger or loved one…please keep Pat’s impact on others moving forward.

In living memory of Patricia Irving, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
