Condolences
I was shocked and saddened to learn of Bill's sudden passing. My deepest condolences to Shelagh and to Bill's extended family.
There are two kinds of people in this world:
those that make you happy when they say hello......
and those that make you happy when they say goodbye.
Bill was definitely in the first group.
Life would get in the way, but I would see Bill for the first time in three months and it would be like I just saw him yesterday. We would pick up the conversation almost exactly where we had left off previously. Bill is one of a very few friends that I can say that about.
Bill was one of those guys who liked to buy big things......cars, trucks, motorcycles, etc., and I could certainly identify with that. That’s one of the reasons we got along so well.
There are dozens of stories I could relate about our times together doing “man things” like motorcycle rides, building a garage, overhauling a vehicle carburator and on and on.
Bill and I did business together back in the late 1970's and when Fern and I moved to Okotoks in 1979, we found out that Bill and Shelagh lived about a block away. What are the odds ??!!
Fern and I spent many happy and memorable times together in Okotoks with Bill and Shelagh and, later, when we both ended up back in Calgary.
I will miss Bill for a whole host of reasons but I know he’s now in a happier place, riding his bikes and working on his cars.
Ride on, buddy. I’ll miss you.
My condolences to Shelagh and all family members upon the far too early loss of Bill, loving husband and father.
Shelagh - sorry to hear of your loss. May your memories ease the pain somewhat.
Our thoughts are with you on the passing of Bill. Our sympathies go to your whole family.......from your old neighbours on Knowles. Sharon Johnson, Kyle Johnson and family and Shelley Dennis and family
Bill Rathgeber was a wonderful, caring man and a great Friend. I always felt like the Rathgeber’s treated me as family.
When suffering in Arizona with a back issue, Bill helped me through the depression and helped me come through the other side.
I am not sure if he knew how much that meant to me, but it was one of the best things that any friend has ever done for me.
When living in Okotoks we spent many happy times together and it has carried on and I wish life had not gotten so busy that we did not spend as much time together as we did then. My deepest sympathy goes to Shelagh and their boys and their families.
Fern Best
