Obituary of John Campbell Thomson

John Thomson, beloved husband of Margaret Thomson passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2022 at the age of 67 years.

 

John was born in Glasgow, Scotland on April 17, 1955. He immigrated to Canada in 1988. John graduated from the City and Guilds of London Institute after a four-year apprenticeship he graduated as a marine heating, ventilating and air conditioning draughtsman. Throughout his 45-year career he continued to build skills and knowledge that earned him a reputation as a supreme problem solver in the HVAC industry. His career took him from the Glasgow shipyards to North Sea and Norwegian oil rigs, to many of the big cities in Canada and the United States. John married Margaret in 1983 in Stonehaven, Scotland.

 

John had a passion for soccer (or football as the Scots call it) and Aberdeen F.C. He played in recreational leagues in Scotland and Canada, even having a testimonial match played in his honour on October 2, 1988. He had a keen tactical mind and completed his coaching certifications through the national coaching program. He coached an under-16 team girls’ team to a victory in the Robbie Tournament and finished second in the Ontario Cup.

 

John and Margaret travelled to Germany in 2006 for the World Cup and enjoyed one of the best parties in the world, watching games live and with people from all over the world in Dutch and German cities.

 

Besides his loving wife, John is survived by his two sons, Stuart and Gordon; and two daughters-in-law, Laura and Tysa; as well as his two grandchildren, Reyna and Eve. John is also survived by his two brothers, Gordon and Bill; his sister-in-law Dang, as well as his nieces, Laura, Audrey, and Rachel; and nephews, Simon, David, and Ross.
