Condolences
My sincerest condolences to my mom, Pat, Debbie and Sheila. I remember fondly all the times we spent with Grandma during Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter celebrations. Grandma always took great care of us when we visited her and Grandpa in the summertime. I always felt welcomed and loved. I am blessed that she was part of my family. May God rest her soul and relieve the grief from her daughters and family.
I am thankful to have had such a wonderful, kind and loving Grandma who always had the time and patience to teach me to bake and play cards. I will cherish my memories with you from our holidays together in Taber and camping trips to Waterton.
Love you,
Luci
Memories of Molly
I first came to Canada in 1979 as a tourist on a Greyhound Bus. I enjoyed my brief stay and made a mental note that I wouldn’t mind returning someday.
In 1983 while traveling around Europe I met Debbie, Molly’s daughter and before I knew it I was back in Calgary meeting her family. I met Pat in Vancouver, who gave me the once over and thankfully made no open commentary. I then met Molly along with Sheila in Calgary at Pat’s house. I had gone for a walk prior to coming back and getting cleaned up as Debbie had said her mother and Sheila would be coming by later on. They were both in the house when I came back. She was not at all perturbed by the unkempt, untidy and unshaven Aussie who came walking through the door. Neither was Sheila who just wanted me to “talk” in that funny accent. I met Frankie some weeks later in Edmonton. She by now had been thoroughly updated on this mumbling male from a distant land and culture. She also refrained from any formal evaluation. I knew then I was onto a good mannered family. One of the most important boxes ticked.
Two things came out of that first meeting. Firstly was the Hedley rigidity with time, and secondly, the warmth of Molly Hedley and her gentleness and openness and wonderful good nature. All of these facets of Molly I came to enjoy and appreciate over the past 38 years.
She was a great mother to her daughters and a loving person to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, including my son Alex and daughter Luci. They always looked forward to seeing her either in Canada or on her and Bill’s frequent visits to Australia. While it may have had something to do with the way she made candy available, it was mostly due to her naturalness and warmth and sense of humour. She engaged with them as she has with me and all of her extensive family.
Debbie and I and our children have had the blessing of her kindness and warmth and support as have all of the generations. We thank her for her life and the pleasure of her company. We will miss her greatly.
Given the life she led and the way she lived it, I am sure she is resting in peace.
Tony
