Obituary of Lydia Wing

Lydia Wing (nee Zimmer), of Calgary, AB, beloved wife of the late Elmer Wing, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 15, 2022, at the age of 94 years.
Lydia was born in Bashaw, AB, on January 17, 1928. She married Elmer in 1946. Lydia accomplished much throughout her life and was particularly proud of becoming a Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and Great-Great-Grandmother. She enjoyed baking, crocheting, camping, shopping, and watching The Young and the Restless. The most memorable vacations were when she and Elmer would go camping at Keiver’s Lake, Bragg Creek, and Carsland. They would often have the grandchildren accompany them. Together they could often be found playing Rummikub, a jigsaw puzzle, or the card game “May I?”. She will be most remembered for her delicious baking especially her molasses cookies and homemade jelly rolls.
Lydia is survived by her three daughters and three sons-in-law, Sharon (Gord) Vornbrock of Didsbury, AB, Marilyn (Bill) Lysak, of Airdrie, AB, and Bev (Stu) McTavish of Calgary, AB; three sons and three daughters-in-law, Barry (Chris) Wing of Tees, AB, Brian (Jo) Wing of Airdrie, AB, and Allen (Janice) of Innisfail, AB; fourteen grandchildren, Robert Vornbrock, Jason Wing, Robin Wing, Joe (Angie) Vornbrock, Greg Wing, Rodney (Stacey) Wing, Michael Wing, Brett Sochowski, Jeff (Stacey) Lysak, Steve (Lisa) Lysak, Shauna Wing, Kent (Dana) Wing, Tracie Wing; and her adopted grand-daughter Jody Schafer, eighteen great-grandchildren, Doug Wing, Coleton Wing, Bethany Vornbrock, Matthew Vornbrock, Michelle Wing, Taylor Beauchamp, Ethan Wing, Alexis (Dan) Thompson, Ashley Wing, Adam Wing, Parker Wing, Paige Wing, Alexander Sochowski, Jacob Lysak, Samuel “Charlie” Lysak, Kali Lysak, Taylor Lysak, Carson Mappin-Wing, and Everhett Wing; and great-great grandchildren Lincoln Wing, Eli Thomson, and Beau Thomson. Lydia is also survived by her two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Ethel (Lee) Cornelssen of Red Deer, AB, and Adeline Shaw (Ron) of Edmonton, AB; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Besides her loving husband Elmer, Lydia was predeceased by her parents August and Laura Zimmer; brothers Louis Zimmer, Ed Zimmer, John Zimmer, Walter Zimmer, Ernest Zimmer, Ken Zimmer, and Ron Zimmer; sister Flora Buelow, and grandson Douglas Wing.
