I still can't believe that I am writing this. Wes had been a very good mentor and a better friend! I will always treasure our days at Weatherford. All the arguments during testing that always concluded at the local bar for an end of day celebration! I always dreaded setting up for our tests, but his presence made it worth while.
One of my fondest memories of Wes was when he stayed in Houston over a weekend, and I invited him out for a little bit of bar hopping and mingling with the art crowd. Our crowd consisted of mainly my age (I was about 36 years old then). He was probably already in his mid 50s, and man...! He carried himself like a pro! He mingled so well that he even scored a free art book from a local artist.
The last time I saw him was about 3 years ago. My wife and I visited Banff. I knew he was about an hour or so drive away from where we were at, but I joked around and said... "dude, come on over and have a drink like old times!!!" (At the time, I had already left Houston and Weatherford, and moved back home to San Diego. I had not seen him for almost 2 years then). He called my bluff, and drove to see us! I felt a little guilty, but also felt so happy to see him because we got to drink like old times. Most importantly, I got to introduce him to my wife.
That trip to Canada was the last time I saw him! That picture where its just him and I was our last get together!!!
I will miss you very much, Wes!!! Rest in peace, my friend!!!
