Obituary of Linda Mae Nichols-Mandrusiak

Linda Nichols-Mandrusiak of Calgary, AB, (formerly of Two Hills, AB) passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at the age of 75 after a terminal cancer diagnosis earlier in the year. She was deeply loved and will be equally missed.

 

Linda graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Education in 1973. She taught in schools around Alberta, including Spirit River, Hairy Hill, Derwent, Myrnam, Plain Lake Hutterite Colony, and Two Hills. Although she taught various classes over the years, most of her career was spent teaching grade 3.

 

Linda married Maurice in 1972 and they lived and taught in Spirit River, AB, before moving to the Mandrusiak homestead near Two Hills, AB, in 1975. Linda and Maurice moved to Calgary five years ago to be closer to two of their daughters.

 

Linda faithfully attended the Two Hills United Church and then St. Thomas United in Calgary. Linda took courses to become a lay minister and was able to perform certain services when an ordained minister was not available. Over the years, Linda enjoyed creating handmade greeting cards for friends and family for and continued improving her abilities through card making courses. Linda always enjoyed a good card game with family and friends, from crib to whist to barouche. Over the years at the farm, Linda enjoyed gardening and cultivated an extensive collection of lilies, sharing bulbs with friends and family.

 

She was an active volunteer throughout her life, with her church, Two Hills Victim Services, 4-H clubs, and with Kindness in Action (dentistry services in Peru and South Africa), among others.

 

Linda loved to travel and enjoyed many trips with Maurice, her daughters, and other family and friends, including to the United Kingdom, Peru, South Africa, Japan, Iceland, New Zealand, Fogo Island, a river cruise from Amsterdam to Switzerland, Alaskan and Hawaiian cruises, and around Canada and the United States.

 

Linda is survived by her three daughters and two sons-in-law, Jeannette Mandrusiak of Calgary, AB, Lisa Mandrusiak (Alva Worden) of Austin, Texas, and Kathryn Mandrusiak (Dave Brown) of Calgary, AB and her two grandchildren, William and Anna Worden of Austin, Texas.

 

Linda is also survived by her brother, Jim Nichols, of Bellevue, AB, and sister, Marion Nichols, of Calgary, AB., as well as numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

 

Linda was predeceased by her husband, Maurice Mandrusiak, parents, Art and Lillian Nichols, and sister, Bev Burns.

 

Linda’s family thanks the staff of the Dulcina Hospice for their dedication, wonderful care, and kindness.

 

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB), on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
