Dr. Luciano Mazzolani

Obituary of Dr. Luciano Mazzolani

April 23, 1928 - September 23, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, Luciano Mazzolani, at the age of 94 years.

Born in the coastal city of Rimini, Italy, Luciano grew up swimming in the Adriatic Sea and racing small sailboats with his friends. He attended the University of Bologna and the University of Milan where he graduated in Medicine in 1954. After marrying Natalia Premi, they decided to embark on a great adventure and moved to Canada in 1961, where Luciano practiced Family Medicine in Saskatchewan and then in Calgary. He was passionate about his work and was dedicated to his patients, whom he served for over fifty years.

Luciano loved travelling with his family (including two cross-continent road trips from Calgary to Texas!), sailing in his beloved Manalupa on the B.C. coast and having lively conversations with family and friends. With an ever-positive outlook, a sharp intelligence and an elegant turn of phrase, he could always be relied upon for good advice and unwavering support.

Luciano will be greatly missed by his loving wife Natalia, his son Marco, his daughter Patrizia and his son-in-law Darrel Kemp. His grandsons Lucas and Ethan are heartbroken to lose their Nonno and will always hold his love in their hearts. We are very grateful that Luciano was present at the wedding of Lucas and his wife Jenna in July of this year. Luciano will also be missed by extended family, friends and neighbours who loved his company and conversations.

We have lost a kind, gentle, humble, generous, wonderful man. Ciao Papà, we will miss you always.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. James Catholic Church (5504 – 20th Street S.W., Calgary, AB) on Friday, September 30, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Parish Hall. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.

In living memory of Luciano Mazzolani, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area.
