October 5, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Maida Louise Evans of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at the age of 92 years.

Maida spent her childhood in Winnipeg in the company of her parents and three older sisters, Helen, Audrey and Betty, all of whom she was very close to. She attended the University of Manitoba, earning herself a Bachelor of Arts degree. During this time, she met the love of her life and future husband Barry. They got married in 1954 and lived in Winnipeg, Toronto, Regina, Boston and Edmonton during his medical training and early career before settling in Calgary in 1966. Maida briefly worked as a grade one schoolteacher, which she enjoyed immensely, prior to having children. They lived in Calgary where they raised their four children, Cathy, Rob, Doug (Jenni) and Dawn (William). She will be dearly missed by her husband, four children, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Maida enjoyed singing in the church choir for many years. She also loved taking part in outdoor activities, including hiking, camping, and skiing with her friends. Maida had a good sense of humour and was a very social person who enjoyed group trips, activities, and parties. She was passionate about travelling and in their later years, Maida and Barry travelled to many countries around the world, managing to visit every continent.
