Condolences
“Gord” was a popular counsel at Camp Sherwood Forest in Halliburton Ontario in the 1950’s and 60’s. At the time it was the oldest boys camp in Canada. My cousins Pete, Doug and myself met Gord there where he quickly became our teacher and inspiration. He taught us how to harmoniously negotiate the woods, the water and coexist with them! We saved a crippled hawk and with Gord’s help made it a pet until it could fly again. Gord continued to be our friend and became like a son to my mother. Over the years he never failed to call her at Christmas. My mother would often say she wasn’t sure who Gord was coming to visit: her, me or my sister. We all so enjoyed his company. We loved his sense or humour and gentle ways. He truly was a gentleman and a man to be respected. I am sorry for your loss Irene and Vytai!! And I will miss those Christmas calls from Gord.
I would like to extend to Irene and Vytai my most heartfelt condolences and hopes for God's peace and comfort in this very difficult time of Gordon's passing. Gordon and I had a friendship that lasted over 40 yrs. He was a gentleman with a strong christian ethic. He taught, counselled and mentored many individuals in his work life with Alberta Health Services. He will really be missed. Godspeed my friend.
Gordon was my mentor when I was an MSW student at the U of Calgary. My memories of him are that he was a thoughtful and supportive instructor. I appreciated his sense of humour as well as his love of his Akita dogs. I am saddened to learn of his passing. Sincere condolences to his family!
