Obituary of Frederick William Martin

Fred Martin of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2022, at the age of 90 years.

Fred was born and raised in Calgary, AB, he married Arlene Rauhala in 1954, they lived in Calgary, Dawson Creek, and Edmonton, AB. After retiring they moved to Kelowna, BC, where he and Arlene enjoyed gardening, and socializing with their many friends and family in the area. Fred had a passion for the aircraft industry and worked as a flight engineer. For most of his career, he worked for the air transport division of Imperial Oil, flying throughout the Northern reaches of Canada. Fred will be fondly remembered for his carving, and woodworking talents and created many items that are enjoyed by the family.  

Fred was predeceased by his beloved wife Arlene in 2015. Fred will be missed by his two sons, Monty (Elaine Lupul) of Calgary, AB, and Wayne of Edmonton, AB; and two granddaughters, Tanya, and Lesya Martin of Calgary, AB. Fred is also survived by his sister Verona McKenzie, and brother Terry Martin (Nora), both of Calgary, AB, sisters-in-law, Irene Oishi, Esther McGinnis, and Dale Naka (Ernie); brother-in-law Chester Rauhala (Sharon), all of British Columbia; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

No memorial service will be held as per his request. In living memory of Fred Martin, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, Ab t2x 3j3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.
