Condolences

I was very saddened to learn of the loss of Marni. Marni was without a doubt one of my favourite coworkers when I was at Grey Eagle. She was an ear that was always there. She helped talk me through so much when my dad first got ill, she helped me see the bigger picture when I got lost in the small stuff. She had this amazing way of doing things her way and not making any excuses about it. She was so beautifully blunt and matter of fact, yet at the same time amazingly kind and compassionate. I'd found myself thinking about her a lot the past month or so, because I was really missing her counsel. When I found out she had passed, it was a huge blow, such a beautiful soul gone. Conversations with Marni often left me inspired, she lived an amazing full life and knew how to get things done. Her family meant everything to her, and she was always willing to do whatever it took to help them. She told me about jobs she held over the years, and the balance of volunteering and working and making sure she was always there for her kids, watching them grow and develop in their sports and activities while helping find the extra money to make such experiences possible. She shared about how she loved being a grandmother, and how much she adored her grandchildren as well. I never met her family, but I always knew how much they were the center of her universe. Her devotion to her husband was admirable. She spoke of him with a combination of exasperation and deep adoration that resonates with me to my soul. She checked in on him at least once during the work day, and the calls always left me with a smile as she would be doting on him, scolding him, and honestly caring deeply for him all at the same time. She told me tales of their property in Costa Rica, how it wasn't planned, it was one of those surprise endings in a story, but how she loved it anyhow. Marni, I don't need to say you will be missed, you are missed already! I'm sorry I'm not at your actual service this morning, but I know that you, of everyone I've ever met, would totally understand why I'm not there. It would be one of those complex things I need to sort that you and I would chat our way around and through. I know you never met my dad, but say Hi to him for me anyhow, I know you'll recognize him. You'll both be where all the good dogs are. Marni, I'm so thankful that you were in my life.
My deepest condolences to you Billy and your family. I read the obituary in the Herald and knew immediately who she was. Although it has been many, many years since I last saw yourself and Marni, I remember the two of you getting married and hearing about the births of the first three or was it four Ingrams from your Mom, Lavena. The kindness shown to me by your parents looks like it continued throughout your and Marni's marriage in her volunteerism and love for family and four legged friends. I know you and your family will miss her very much. Take care.

The Best Bingo Association
Marni has been with our association as a volunteer and then employee for 25 years.
As the bingo director of South West Athletic Association, which later became Calgary Royals Athletic Association she started her “bingo career” in 1998. She was on the Best Bingo Association executive when the bingo hall operated out of Golden Wings which closed in September 2007.
The association reopened in January 2008 at the Grey Eagle Casino location. Marni was instrumental with helping transition between the two venues. Marni loved the bingo hall and in November 2008 she started working for the association full time. She remained with the hall until her passing.
Staff and patrons loved Marni and will miss her dearly. We will honor her and her contributions to the organization with a remembrance plaque in the hall.
Rest in Peace Marni.
Deepest condolences to the family and friends for their loss.
