Condolences
I have just learned of the passing of a fine man I had the pleasure of knowing, working with and socializing. Although our paths separated many years ago, I have always held Sharkey in high esteem. He and I worked together in several AGT Central Offices in Calgary in the mid to late sixties. We lost touch when “work” took us in different directions and to different locations.
I will always remember how his big smile lit up a room. I feel privileged to have known him as a friend. RIP Sharkey, RIP.
Great memories of Sharkey. Setting pins at the bowling alley shooting gophers near Cochrane. We lost touch but were good friends.I remember a surprise meeting in Richmond Coop after many years lost contact, my wife thought I was being stalked but was Sharkey making certain it was his friend. The world needs more Dennis Taylor's.
Please accept my deepest sympathies. I have so many happy memories of my Uncle Dennis and Aunty Pauline. Darrel and family - I am truly sorry for your loss.
I never met Mr. Taylor but I have no doubt that I am a beneficiary of the path blazed during his time with TELUS. I joined TELUS in 1981 as a young Black man after graduating from SAIT with a Diploma of Telecommunications Technology. Wherever I went as my career developed, I would inevitably be asked by someone if I knew Sharky? As an I & R Technician, I recall using a washroom in a CO he managed and was appalled by the racist graffiti scrawled on the walls. History documents the racism Jackie Robinson as the first African American to play professional baseball player was subjected to. Pioneering Black leaders like Mr. Taylor had to endure such indignities in their daily lives without complaints as they would have been accused of playing the race card.
I have had a rewarding 30 plus year career with TELUS. I am grateful to Mr. Taylor, whose example of Leadership under duress with grace and dignity provided the opportunity for me to succeed.
My deepest condolences to Mr. Taylor’s family.
