Obituary of Carol Anne Wappel
December 17, 1959 - Regina, Saskatchewan
October 29, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta
Dr. Carol Wappel of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at the age of 62 years.
Carol was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, to her loving parents Karl and Pat Wappel. Growing up, Carol had interests in a variety of activities beyond her academics. She was active on both school track and basketball teams and completed her silver star assessments in figure skating. Her love for figure skating continued all her life. Carol, also being an accomplished academic, pursued and graduated with a Doctor of Medical Dentistry from the University of Saskatchewan in 1984. She subsequently relocated to Calgary where she established a successful dental practice. Carol was known as both a particular and affable dentist who cared greatly for her patients, many of whom became long lasting friends.
Carol was so many things to so many people, giving generously and never expecting anything in return. She was a devoted friend, a loving wife, a thoughtful sister, but most of all an unbelievably loving mother to her three children, James, Sarah, and Phillip. Carol was and always will be their North Star. Carol loved spending time in the mountains skiing and hiking with family. She was always grateful for those around her, possessed a sharp wit, and an extremely generous spirit and heart. So greatly devoted to her family and friends, which makes the loss of her presence so overwhelming.
Carol leaves behind so many who loved and cared for her, and who will continue to cherish her memory, husband Jim Kirker; children, James, Sarah, and Phillip; brothers, Brian Wappel (Annemarie), and Gerard Wappel; sisters, Sheila Wappel-McLean (Brent), and Marilyn Wappel; nephews, Jared Hamm (Paulina), and Michael Wappel; her niece, Kyla Hamm (Tyler); and many extended family members.
A Private Family Service will be held to celebrate and honour Carol, and the countless gifts of her life. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
