Obituary of Gerald Thomas Ball
January 18, 1938 – Drumheller, Alberta
November 1, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta
Gerry Ball, beloved husband, Dad, Papa, and Great-Papa passed away surrounded by love, on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at the age of 84 years.
He was born in Drumheller, grew up in the town of Langley, Banff, Fernie, and Calgary. Gerry started with the Calgary Herald in 1955. His first job was as a copy boy in the Editorial room, then moving on to the Press Room where he completed his career of 37 years as the Foreman of Press Room. During the same year, he became a member of the church of St. John’s the Evangelist. It is fitting that we say farewell at St. John’s.
Gerry is survived by his wife of 64 years, Glenda Ball, son and daughter-in-law Tom and Micheleine Ball; daughters and sons-in-law, Margot and Gordon Varszegi and Natalie and Mel Stuber; four grandchildren, Catherine (Ryan), Justin (Elizabeth), Melissa (Chris) and Nichole (Colten); and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial Services will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church (1423 8th Ave SE, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the church.
Please note that a Ball family tradition is not to dress in total black for such occasions. Go ahead and add some colour to your outfit in honour of celebrating Gerry’s life.
