Obituary of Adeline Rosemary Mayer

May 3, 1939 – Mendham, Saskatchewan

November 6, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Adeline Mayer (nee Hoffart), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2022, at the age of 83 years.

Adeline was born in Mendham, SK on May 3, 1939. She often spoke of fond memories of living in Taber, AB, where her family relocated in 1943. Her family’s journey would lead her to Calgary in 1952, where she would settle in and grow her family.

Adeline married her beloved husband, Anton Mayer on June 28, 1958. This beautiful bride was proud to start her new family and was blessed with her first child Terry in 1960, followed by Joe in 1961 and Tony in 1964. They planted deep roots in their community of Haysboro, where they remained close to family and friends for 50 years. Adeline enjoyed setting up her granddaughters’ tea parties, playing in the garden, picking apples and pears and cutting our bangs. She was an amazing cook and made the best sandwiches, potato salad and cabbage rolls. Adeline enjoyed camping in the summer months with her family. There are a ton of treasured memories at Little Bow Resort and, later on, Montana, where she was happy winning Yahtzee, Hearts and, of course, Bocce Ball.

Adeline accomplished much throughout her life and was a proud mom, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt. Her voice truly lit up the room and many were fortunate to hear it in the Choir at St.Gerards Parish. A memory we will all cherish is she would always answer a complicated question with “Que Sera Sera”. Adeline loved Christmas and hosted the best family Christmas in her basement

with an open-door policy welcoming everyone. Adeline lived life to the fullest and relocated to High River eight years ago to be close to her siblings. Here she truly flourished, enjoying aquasize, bingo, gardening, lunch with friends and, most recently, taking up the ukulele and bells.

Adeline believed very strongly in her faith, which guided her through some incredible hardships maintaining her strength and guiding her family. She was a proud member of the CWL (Catholic Woman's League) for 57 years, where she took joy in volunteering many hours in her community.

Adeline is survived by her sons, Joe (Chris), and Tony; six grandchildren, Amy, Holly, Courtney (Shane), Josh, Tricia (Corey), and Tyler (Shamaya); two great-granddaughters, Marlowe and Emma; sister Barbara; brother Wendell (Noel); brother-in-law Julius “Whitey” (Carole); as well as numerous cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Adeline was predeceased by her husband Anton; her daughter Terry; her parents, John and Balidia; brother John; sisters, Anna Marie, Marge, and Agnes; brothers-in-law Francis, Michael, Albert, Stephen and Johnny; and sisters-in-law Anna and Theresia.

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, November 17, 2022, at 7:00 p.m.
