Condolences
Donna & Family,
This morning while going through my NSTU contacts, I came across Diane's contact information. We connected today and this is when I learned of Vern's passing almost one year ago. Mike and I had great respect for Vern not just as an educator but as a person who exuded good will to everyone he encountered. This placed him in such a positive light with students and staff. Please accept our belated condolences and know that we are thinking about you here in Cape Breton.
Sincerely,
Diane & Mike Lachowiez

Such a wonderfully kind and giving man. His "pearls of wisdom" shared with both students and colleagues guided many along our journeys. Thank you to his Creator and his family for sharing Vern with all of us!
Vern and I were born inthe same year and went to Sidney Stephen High School.
We shared a love of sports and kids, both of us becoming Teachers, Vern in Guidance, myself inPhysical Education.
We shared many stories of our educational experiences and laughed at how successful we both were and our different styles.
My heart aches knowing we will never chat again
Fky high Big Guy
Vern was my son's Big Brother.
There's so much I could write about the positive impact Vern made in my son's life and how Vern's family truly treated my son like one of their own. I will forever be deeply grateful to them.
To Donna and the rest of the family, I can't find the words to say how sorry I was to hear of Vern's passing.
Doris and I were shocked to hear of Vern’s passing. Our deepest condolences to his family at this difficult time.
I remember with fondness the time I spent with Vern at the hockey rink playing teachers hockey in Cole Harbour. Lots of fun and laughter. We often kidded each other about being the two oldest players.
Rest In Peace my friend.
Dwight & Doris Corbin

I have many fond memories of Vern. In the mid to late 70's he and I ran the youth group at Cole Harbour United Church. We had such fun taking the kids on lots of outdoor adventures and camping trips. I had a picture a number of uears ago of our group around a camp fire. I gave it to the church to keep in their archives. May you find strength in the love of family and friends. Pam Carter.
Donna and Boys, so very sorry to hear of Vern's passing. Many fond memories of years ago. Heather (Frost) Mitchell and George.
Dori's sister.
Dear Donna and family so sorry to hear of Vern’s passing. You could always count on Vern for a big smile and a hug whenever you met. Sending you a big hug and most sincere condolences he was a wonderful spirit in the world.
I will always remember Vern from the East Coast IceJam hockey tournament. Vern and my husband were co-chairs of Team Services and led a great group of volunteers. That was a good thing since Vern and Rod personified the definition of “Social Butterflies” and I had the unenviable job of trying to herd them back to the arena lobby. I can just see them up there, watching a hockey game and chatting to everyone they met. Love to Donna and family.
To Vern's wife and family;
I feel very privileged to have known Vern as we were both on staff at Sir Robert Borden Junior High for many years. He was one of the kindest and most personable individuals I have ever met. He made time for everyone, had a great sense of humor and enhanced the lives of everyone who had the honor of knowing him. He brightened my days often! One of the truly good guys is gone too soon . Thinking of you all during this difficult time.
Sincerely,
David Nauss

I was devastated to hear of Vern's passing. He was an intermittent but loved part of my life since high school. We went to Sidney Stephen High School, where Vern was two years ahead of me. If you knew Vern, you know his gregarious, friendly, open personality, and for me he was #1 'big man on campus'. Years later, we met up again, colleagues in the same school, and my respect and affection for him was re-kindled and expanded. Then, a parent/teacher relationship presented itself and the connection continued. I have nothing but respect, affection and gratitude for this wonderful man. Donna, Tyler and Cory and your families, I'm so very sorry for your loss.
So very shocked and saddened to hear of Vern’s passing Sending deepest sympathy to you Donna and family , Diane and family
I may have met Vern ( memory ?? ! ) before we taught together at Colonel John Stuart My best memory ? … he taught Primary then and I could not believe the joy in those little 5 year old eyes at the end of every school day as he stood at the classroom doorway to high five each and every little student U really felt they couldn’t end their day without that and Vern couldn’t either !
I thot where was this teacher when I was in Primary !!!
Vern always had time for a sincere hello or chat
with staff or students He also counselled our daughter Jennifer at Prince Andrew She loved that he was always easy to talk to U can’t help but miss a guy like Vern
Sending u all the love and sympathy xox

I was shocked and saddened to hear this news. Although I had not seen Vern in many years, I remember him clearly and fondly from the ballfields and rinks as one of the most positive and upbeat people I’ve known.
Sincere sympathies to Donna and family.

So sorry to hear of Vern's passing. Our sincere condolences to Donna and all the family. He was always friendly and he would stop and chat with neighbours when walking in the neighborhood.
Wow, this was hard to receive as news. Debbie and I were Vern and Family neighbours for many years. Best neighbours ever. We will miss Vern for sure, always smiling, friendly, Since they moved out west, we have missed them and wanted them back as neighbours. I recall Vern knocking at my door with a nice speckled trout for us. What great memories. We wish Donna and family the best, always recall the happy times. We will miss Vern and still miss our best neighbours ever.

Our condolences to Donna, Tyler, Corrie and families. My favourite memories of Vern were when I came over from South Africa meeting all of my Canadian family for the first time and Vern just giving me the biggest hug anyone could experience. Making me so welcome to his country and just so happy to show me around. Nothing was too much trouble and then when George and I came back for Christmas of 1999 always arriving with two cups of coffee one for himself and the other for George. The wonderful barbeque of salmon that he had caught. This was really special as salmon in South Africa was a real treat. What was so special was the way he treated his mom my Aunty Francis with such compassion and love. He was just so interested to hear about our lives and about our country South Africa. The wonderful Boxing Day family bowling day and Wow the potluck supper afterwards. He was so much fun to be with. Donna and family, you are all in our thoughts and prayers. All our love from all the families in South Africa.
My sincerest condolences to Donna, Cory, Tyler and the whole family. Vern was a friend to so many and a pillar of the Cole Harbour hockey community. He took great interest in young kids learning the game he loved and later as he moved on to counsel and mentor young men at the AAA Midget level. A gregarious, pleasant, caring guy with a big heart who loved his community and his family.
To Donna and family... Vern was a lovely man who I had great respect for. Vern was one of the first people I met when I started playing hockey with the Dartmouth teachers. I valued his advice and wisdom, whether it was about the teaching profession or hockey. I cherished those early days and all the laughs we shared. Rest easy D-Man. Bill Penney
Please accept our sincere condolences on the loss of Vern. We are so thankful you shared him with us over the years. He was such a champion of Big Brothers Big Sisters and made such a difference in so many ways. He will be truly missed, but never forgotten.
Donna,Tyler, Cory & Families. Very sorry to learn of Vern's passing. We were aware that had serious Health issues. We had a fair amount of contact over the years before moving "West".
Remember and cherish memories of the good times !
Our condolences to the entire Lowe family. My favourite memory of Vern is watching him teach my children from the prairies how to rip into a lobster dinner! He was generous enough to host us in his home, cook us an Atlantic feast, And then passionately explain the best way to go about eating it. Vern and Donna then graciously allowed my family to stay at their home while they move down the street for the night. Such a great man and an incredible role model for many
Donna, Tyler, Cory and families……. My best memories of Vern were around the boys in their years together in hockey. He was so interested in them all, encouraging them always. I’m sure he must have touched a lot of young lives in classrooms. My sincerest condolences to you all and your families at this time……with warm regards, Hugh Townsend.

Donna, although we didn’t know Vern for long it felt like we’ve been friends for a long time. Will miss our good conversations on the skating rink. The world has lost one of the good ones.. we are blessed to have got to know Vern. Our deepest sympathies to you and your family… Bob & Kathy
So very sorry to hear of Vern’s passing. We saw Donna and Vern at the Shearwater dances just before they moved out west. Enjoyed our conversations.
Mr. Lowe was a wonderful teacher. I remember him from Junior High school. He always welcomes us (his students) with a big smile everyday! Thoughts and prayers to his family.
Vern was a wonderful man. When I lived on Caldwell Road and worked at what was then Prince Andrew High, I would occasionally get lifts to or from work with him. We always talked hockey, naturally. One day, he paid me the highest of compliments. He told me I was likely the smartest person he had ever met, and that every knows that the minute I opened my mouth. I was humbled by his words then, and am to this day. Bless him and condolences to his family.
Donna and Family
