Obituary of Benito Sergio Menchini

Benito Menchini beloved husband of the late Antonietta (nee Barsocchini) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, November 18, 2022 at the age of 86 years.

Benito immigrated to Canada with his mother, father and brother and settled in Calgary. He married the love of his life, started a family, and became a carpenter. As he worked for Calgary’s largest construction companies as a foreman there are very few buildings in downtown Calgary that he didn’t work on. Another accomplishment he was proud of was working on the twining of the CN rail through the Rockies.

His greatest joys came from camping, hunting, fishing, foraging for mushrooms and providing for his family. Benito was an ingenious man who loved to create and build a solution for every problem.

Benito is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Brunetta and Egisto Mariani of Vermilion, AB; and his grandson Stefano Mariani of Calgary, AB. Benito was predeceased by his mother and father, Bruna and Celestino, and his brother Enzo.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Catholic Church (541 Silvergrove Drive N.W., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, November 24, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. A Reception will follow in the Hospitality Centre at Chapel of The Bells (2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB), Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here.

In living memory of Benito Menchini, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes.
