Obituary of Paz Lee Tamayo

Paz Carantes Tamayo of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at the age of 75 years.

Paz Lee Carantes was born in Baguio City, Philippines on September 17, 1947 to Marvin Carantes and Juanita Lee. The fourth eldest of six children.

Paz graduated from Baguio General Hospital School of Nursing in the Philippines class of 1969. She immigrated to Canada shortly thereafter to pursue her nursing career and spent over 25 years working in the health care system having retired as a registered nurse.

Paz was an exceptional wife and mother. She cared deeply for her family. Paz enjoyed spending time with friends sharing good stories and conversation. A selfless person Paz gave unconditional love and was very kind and generous. A self-taught piano player she enjoyed playing her favorite songs all by ear.

She will be most remembered for her witty attitude and great sense of humor. Paz was a beautiful old soul and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Paz is survived by her son, Jonathan Carantes Tamayo who resides in Calgary, Alberta.

Paz is also survived by her sister Phoebe Carantes who resides in New Westminster, British Columbia; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Paz was predeceased by her husband Alfredo Cortez Tamayo Jr., son Michael-Clint Tamayo, father Marvin Carantes, mother Juanita Lee, brother Teofilo Carantes, and sisters Susan Carantes, Nelda Flores (nee Carantes) and Barbara Kalalo (nee Carantes).

Paz’s family would like to express their heartfelt thanks and gratitude for all the thoughtful expressions of love and kindness by relatives and friends during their time of loss and bereavement. We are very grateful for the care from all the doctors and nursing staff of Unit 62 at the Foothills Hospital.

While Paz’s family grieves her loss, they are choosing to remember Paz in a way that honors her spirit. A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held. All are welcome at (Eastside, 5388 Memorial Drive NE, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, December 03, 2022. A viewing open to the public will be from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Celebration of Life will be at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held, on Saturday, December 03, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mrs. Tamayo’s service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service.
