Obituary of Froukje van Dorssen

July 24, 1941 – Amersfoort, Netherlands

November 25, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Froukje van Dorssen, was born on July 24, 1941 in Amersfoort, The Netherlands and passed away peacefully, at home, surrounded by her family, on Friday November 25, 2022 in Calgary, Alberta.

In addition to her parents, Froukje was preceded in death by her sister, Suzanne. She is survived by her husband, Adolf, her daughters, Caroline and Ingrid (Kyle); and her two granddaughters, Paige and Gabrielle.

Froukje was a devoted friend, an incredible wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a woman of many passions; An avid traveler, enjoyed playing tennis, horseback riding, hiking, skiing, and playing bridge. She could also often be found in her garden tending her flowers.

In 1968, at the age of 26, she married Dolf and they moved to Madrid, Spain. In 1985, they relocated to Calgary, Alberta. During her time there, she was a volunteer at the 1988 Winter Olympics, an endeavor which turned into a 25-year commitment to the Olympic Oval Organizing Committee. In 1992 they moved to Mexico and after a 6-year absence, they returned to Calgary.

During the next 25 years, she rekindled old friendships, made amazing new ones, and continued to travel the world to satisfy her inquisitive and curious mind.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Monday, January 16, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mrs. van Dorssen’s service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
