Obituary of Carolina Marciano

Carolina Marciano of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Sunday, November 27, 2022 at the age of 82 years.

Carolina was born in Montoro in the province of Avellino, Italy, to Antonio Gentile and Michela Guarino, on December 31, 1939. She married the love of her life, Pellegrino, on January 26, 1958, and had three children: Tina, Francesca, and Vincenzo. From a young age, Carolina was a hard-working woman. She started as a young girl working with her father at his bread bakery in Avellino, Italy. Her passion to cook, design florals, and do embroidery inspired her to become an entrepreneur, which led her to opening several businesses throughout her life. Carolina began sewing clothing and embroidering women's gloves. Shortly after her marriage to Pellegrino, the two of them opened a fine China shop in Avellino.

In 1967, Pellegrino and Carolina moved their family to Canada, hoping to build a wonderful life for their children. After moving to Calgary, she started a business with her sister Isabella. Carolina's hard work and dedication led her to eventually open four dry cleaning shops around Calgary. Following the loss of her husband, Carolina remained a strong matriarch of her family. She was a beloved Mother and Nonna, and she wanted nothing more than to instill strong Italian culture and values in her children and grandchildren. Carolina also remained connected in the Italian community in Calgary and there met Gerardo Apuzzo, who has been a caring companion for her throughout the later years of her life. Carolina's greatest joy came when she would have all of her family together for weekly family dinners and cherished holiday events. Carolina was admired by her family, friends and long-standing customers for her strength, incredible talents, and her unwavering determination to create La Bella Vita (the beautiful life) for her famiglia.

Carolina is survived by her sister, Angelina Pappalardo, in Italy; and her children, Tina Corcione (Jack), Francesca Marciano and Vincenzo Marciano (Cathy). She was Nonna to her grandchildren, Ginevra Mills (Steve), Felice Corcione (Kyla), Jessica Foglia (Jason), Maria Corcione, Perry Marciano (Lauren), and Ashley Dickison (Aaron); and Bis-Nonna to her great-grandchildren, Adrien, Everett, Eleanor, Lucia, Solena, and Gabriella. She is also survived by many close relatives and friends living both in Canada and in Italy. She was predeceased by her husband, Pellegrino, and her sisters, Maria Moffa and Isabella Galetta. 

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Sunday, December 4, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. 

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Monday, December 5, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Godlove Ngufor presiding. Graveside Service to follow at St. Mary Cemetery. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mrs. Marciano’s service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service.
