Obituary of Raymond Leonard Boyko

Rev. Raymond Boyko passed away at the age of 89 years.

 

Raymond was born in a farmhouse in Saskatchewan. He attended U of S, U of A, and on a scholarship attended SAIT, graduating in Mechanical Engineering. He was employed at Atomic Research in Chalk River for several years and it was there that he decided to become a priest.

 

Raymond was ordained in both Roman and Greek Rites serving in Saskatchewan for about twenty years before moving to Edmonton where he did stand-up comedy and ran as a candidate for the Green Party.

 

Raymond took courses and researched at the university until age 86. He was inventive, talented, and intelligent, excelling in Math and Science. As a youth, he wired the school buzzer timer system and motorized our lawn mower. He played the trumpet in Bud’s Orchestra, played the guitar and ukulele, and was involved in sports and drama.

 

Raymond is survived by his sister Rosemary, twelve nieces and nephews, and 65 great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Stanley, and Dr. Bernard; and his nephew Benedict.

 

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church (321 – 90th Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB) on Friday, May 26, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Parish Hall. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
