Obituary of Ian Cameron Ross

March 4, 1938 – North Uist, Scotland

December 5, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Dr. Ian Cameron Ross of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, December 5, 2022 at the age of 84 years.

Ian was born in North Uist, Scotland on March 4, 1938.  He grew up in Scotland along side his older brother Donald and later went on to attend the University of Glasgow where he successfully completed his doctorate degree (PhD) in Chemistry.  

Ian was an avid soccer player and played for eleven years in the Scottish first division.  He immigrated to Canada with Sally, and they married on May 16, 1964, in Ottawa, ON.  Ian later moved the family to Calgary, AB in 1977 where he accepted a job as the manager of a newly constructed explosives plant.  As an explosives expert, Ian was called upon many times to represent his company and lobby the federal government for policy changes.  It was a role he thoroughly enjoyed and maintained for nearly 40 years.

Ian is survived by his three children, Marianne (Paul), Allan (Staci) and Gordon (Jimmi); his six grandchildren, Michael, Madison, Matthew, Liam, Cooper and Declan, and his brother Donald (91 yrs old).  Ian was predeceased by his wife Sally and his parents, Maggie and Capt. John Ross.
