Obituary of Frances Lucy Dreher

December 30, 1930 – Torquay, Saskatchewan

December 28, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of our mom Frances Lucy Dreher, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who passed away peacefully on Wednesday December 28, 2022, at the age of 91, two days shy of her 92nd birthday.

Frances was born in Torquay, SK. The family moved to Estevan, SK, where she grew up and eventually moved to Regina, where she attended college and then went on to work for the Bank of Canada. It was there that she did shorthand for the bank manager. While working in Regina, Frances met the love of her life and future husband, Engelbert Dreher. They were married in 1955 in Regina and moved to Calgary that same year, where they started their future life together. She eventually became a stay-at-home mom and raised five children. She loved to bake and was known for her pies, especially her lemon meringue, apple, and banana cream pies.

Frances and her husband Bert loved curling and bowling and belonged to leagues and went every week. They also loved to play cards, and mom especially loved to go to bingo and was usually very lucky. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Frances and her husband Bert belonged to St. Cecilia Church and were one of the first members of the parish. They were very active members of the church and loved to volunteer whether it was with Christmas food hampers, weekly church bingos, Inn from the Cold, St. Vincent de Paul, or anything else they could help with. Frances also belonged to the Catholic Women’s League (CWL), which she just became a 60-year member.

Frances will be much loved and forever missed by her five children, Dennis, Derek, Darlene, Debbie (Ben), and Darryl (Carrie); her six grandchildren, Ashley (Chris), Crystal, Haylee, Zachary, Mackenzie, and Shelby; and her three great-grandchildren, Brooklynn, Lily, and Ariah. She is also survived by her sisters, Marie Bonokoski and Irene (Earl) Craig; her brother Lawrence (Janet) Ehrmantraut, her sister-in-law Bette Ehrmantraut, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Frances was predeceased by her husband Engelbert, her parents, Anton and Mary (nee Schell) Ehrmantraut; her infant sister Gertrude, brother and sister-in-law, George and Rose Ehrmantraut; brother Matt Ehrmantraut, and brother-in-law Martin Bonokowski.

A Private Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church (321 – 90th Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, January 5, 2023. Graveside Service to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
