December 29, 2022 – Duncan, British Columbia

Johannes “Hans” Van Biezen, passed away peacefully, in the early morning hours of December 29, 2022.

Hans was born in The Hague, Netherlands on April 17, 1946, to loving parents Theodorus “Ted” and Elisabeth “Betty” Van Biezen. He immigrated to Canada with his parents and brother, Robert in 1953.

Hans graduated from the University of Calgary with a degree in Education. He was a true extrovert, and an exceptional School Teacher and Tradesman. Hans loved to interact with people at every level and in any circumstance. It was never a problem for him to introduce himself and start a conversation with a total stranger, if possible, with a little joke or a prank.

Hans was a proud man, and often loved to talk about his interesting life. Hans treasured his friendships and made everyone feel valued and appreciated. He was an incredibly generous and gentle man who never shied away from helping others.

Hans loved the outdoors, camping, and fishing with friends and family. Being a School Teacher, he had the summers free to enjoy the outdoors, spending time at Pine Lake, AB, and travelling through the Rockies to Vancouver Island, BC. He loved the outdoors so much, he even took on special school projects, frequently taking students camping and snow skiing in the Kananaskis country.

Hans was formerly married to Lorena Van Biezen, the mother of his three sons. He was also a loving husband to his late wife, Anne Van Biezen. Hans loved his family dearly. He was proud of his three sons and five granddaughters.

He will always be remembered with love by his three sons and three daughters-in-law; Todd and Ineke, Troy and Carol, Tyler, and Lynna; two stepdaughters, Carolyn and Denise; five grandchildren, Tova, Thirsa, Taylor, Taryn, and Tylynn; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Hans was an amazing Dad, Opie, Brother, and Friend. He will be missed, and will never, ever be forgotten. He leaves many treasured memories that will last forever.
