Marlene Johnson of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2023 at the age of 86 years.

 

Marlene was born in Stettler, AB on November 22, 1936. She graduated from Stettler High School and moved on to Secretarial Studies in Edmonton, AB. After graduation, Marlene went to work at Gulf Oil, and soon after met Glenn at a dance in Erskine, AB. Marlene married Glenn Johnson on February 22, 1958 in Stettler AB.

 

She was a proud Conservative Party of Canada member and volunteered with Care West and Literacy Book Sales. Marlene accomplished much throughout her life and was particularly proud of her family. Marlene enjoyed golf, curling, tennis, skiing, hiking, jazzercise, and line dancing. Her hobbies included knitting, sewing, needlepoint, decoupage, stained glass, scrapbooking, photography, mop dolls, and politics. She also loved cooking and entertaining. Marlene travelled extensively but particularly enjoyed her adventures on the Amazing Grace, her trip to Asia with her sister Beverly and the family trips to Maui.

 

She will be most remembered for her kindness, beautiful smile, love of life, sense of humour and love for her family and friends.

 

Marlene is survived by her two daughters, Connie (Chuck) of Gananoque, ON, and Karen (Emmett) of Kelowna, BC; her six grandchildren, Kimberly (Andrew), Max (Heather), Sean (Sophia), Natalie (Austin), Daniel, and Matthew; and her five great-grandchildren, Olivia, Brianna, and Aiden of Kelowna, BC, and Penny and Chloe of Calgary, AB. Marlene is also survived by her partner John Campbell of Calgary, AB, her sister Beverly Heath of Mission, BC, and her sister-in-law Mary Jo Gerlach of Stettler, AB, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.

 

Marlene was predeceased by her spouse, Glenn Johnson, and her brother Dave Gerlach of Stettler, AB.

 

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Friday, January 13, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Marlene’s service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
