Obituary of Lynne Joanne Benson

June 15, 1946 – Vancouver, British Columbia

January 10, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta

 

Lynne Benson (nee Braidwood), of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at the age of 76 years.

 

Lynne was born in Vancouver, BC, on June 15, 1946. She moved to Calgary, AB in 1976. Lynne grew up in the UBC Endowment Lands in Vancouver. Here she formed many lifelong friendships and to this day, has stayed in touch with many U-hill friends. Lynne attended Annie Wright private school in Washington for High School and came home to study Psychology at UBC in Vancouver. After University Lynne traveled in the UK and took a job working with a man that would become her future husband.

 

Lynne and Maurice Benson were married from 1969 to 1992.

 

Lynne spent many years with Roger Taylor with whom she loved worldly traveling, exploring the mountains, canoeing, and camping.

 

Lynne loved to travel and had many memorable vacations, with Hawaii always being closest to her heart. In recent years she was able to check off several stops from her bucket list including Asia, Russia, Central and South America, the Caribbean and Europe, Portugal, Spain, and the UK.

 

She was a lifetime member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority with over 45 active and enthusiastic years and had a second family of sisters that she cherished deeply.

 

Lynne accomplished much through her life and was particularly proud of her children and grandchildren.

 

Lynne is survived by her daughter Kim Dunlap (Trevor Spoor), and grandchildren, Ella and Ben of Victoria, BC; as well as son David Benson (Nora), and grandchildren, Talulah and Hank of Vancouver, BC.

 

Lynne is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Trudy Braidwood of Victoria, BC; as well as their children, Jessica Turner (Daryl, Emily and Issac) and Kate Braidwood (Andrew Pheonix).

 

Lynne was predeceased by her parents Darrell and Barbara Braidwood and brother Jimmy.

 

Lynne loved the colour pink and when she wore that colour you could see her light shining even brighter than usual. We would encourage you to wear something pink and come celebrate her life with us.

 

Memorial Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Deerfoot South, 12281 40 St SE, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Lynne Benson’s service streamed live below on the day of the service For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted. In living memory of Lynne Benson, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area.
