Obituary of Irene Edna Rigby

Irene Rigby, beloved wife of Ronald Rigby, passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at 85 years of age. Irene was born in Calgary, AB on December 4, 1937. She married Ron on August 10, 1957, and they recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
Irene graduated from Crescent Heights High School and began an education program at the University of Calgary. Her post-secondary education was cut short by the high demand for teachers, and her career began as a teacher in the one-room Jumping Pound School west of Calgary. She continued in various roles as a school and library assistant, as she and Ron moved from Calgary to Taber, Red Deer, Edmonton, Medicine Hat and back to Calgary again.
After she formally retired in 1992, Ron and Irene spent several years working abroad in Indonesia and in Sydney, Australia. They loved travelling and continued to venture abroad, alternating winters in Arizona in their Airstream trailer with cruising the Caribbean. In the meantime, they began rebuilding Model A Fords in 1993, and spent 30 years touring with the Stampede City Model A Ford Club.
Irene loved to travel but was happiest when she returned home to her family. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest joy. She loved reading, sewing and quilting, and was a lifelong Stampeders and Flames fan.
Irene will be deeply missed by her husband Ron, children, Dan Rigby (Deb Kopec), Mark (Dawn) Rigby and Dawn (Les) Postnikoff; and grandchildren, Jennifer (Mark) Houze, Erika (Kevin) Yee, Nichole (Jason) Cox, Ian (Kayla) Rigby, Samantha Schaerer, Ronnie Postnikoff, Alex Postnikoff, Mandy (Tom) Priddle, and Danielle (Neil) Swailes; seven great-grandchildren, and many friends and extended family members.
The family will hold a private Celebration of Irene’s Life on Monday, January 30, 2023. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
