Obituary of Yuet Lan Lung

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Yuet Lan Lung (nee Chan) on February 28, 2023. She passed away surrounded by love at the Peter Lougheed Hospital.
Yuet Lan was predeceased by her husband Man Ching Lung and grandson Tianyu Ching (Amanda). She is survived by her loving children Mon Yin (Wai Yim), Margaret Y. (Wayne), and Tin Yick. She was a cherished grandmother to Kurt (Alynne), Kunyu (Dean), and Deanna. As well, she will be well-remembered by her great-granddaughter and three great-grandsons.
Born in Beijing, Yuet Lan graduated with a Bachelor of Political Science from the National Sun Yat-sen University in the 1940s. She worked tirelessly to provide for her family and devoted herself to her children. As an accomplished and dedicated teacher, she touched the lives of countless students, many of whom remained in contact with her long after their studies. Her encouragement and enthusiasm shone on all those who received her attention. Yuet Lan’s passion for art, stage drama, and literature was a lifelong avocation and inspired her to write a book of Chinese studies entitled Guó Xué Zhá Jì (Introduction to Chinese Classical Studies) and record a series of lectures. Her work was received with honour at the Asian Library at the University of British Columbia and the University of Toronto’s Cheng Yu Tung East Asian Library.
Yuet Lan’s family will host a celebration of her life on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of The Bells, 2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB).
