So sad to hear of Ray’s passing! We were thrilled to have Ray come visit us on the east coast a few years back. He had a great time with us and it is well known how much he loved animals; he especially enjoyed his visit with Jasper, the dog, and Phoebe, the cat, which he renamed Furbie the cat. Ray sent us the picture of Jasper and him and on the back he wrote....’I made a friend in Shelburne.’
We will miss getting Ray’s humorous notes and cards at Christmas with all his news.
With deepest sympathy to his family,
Walter, Kathy, Katie, Jevon, Josh and Amanda
Ray. I can't quite believe the news. My heart goes out to all of you, Sally, Nicky, Robbie, Danny, and little Dean. Ray will be forever entwined in my memory, not sure re what to say about him except he was frigging awesome. Laid back, always there, always with a smile. We called him our DOGfather, due to the fact we adopted two of his Kitty's crew, and we had kept in contact right up until after Murphy passed in 2016. I kept meaning to message him and tell him we got new pups later, and to meet up with him, but time and other things got in the way. I'm so very sorry about that. Ray, you leave an empty space in the hearts of many people, mine included. I choose to believe that you are somewhere sitting on a river bank with beer in hand, getting a plantation of yellow labs (maybe a few chillywahoos too) to "get the keeks"..... Surrounded by all the dogs you have loved , and Tud, your amazing wonder cat. Love to you , here's to a man who made me laugh, allowed me to hang with his family, and brought me so much joy in my Murphy and Sassy. Love to you Sally and family, xxxooo Carla Miske
Ray was such an inspiration on my team. His generous spirit and wonderful wit always made me smile! His unique laugh could be heard from all over! The angels above I am sure are already having fun sharing in Rays fabulous and kind spirit! I will surely miss him !
Renegade Ray is and always will be my COOL older brother! From the first day he met me as a newborn, he promised he would be the best biggest brother ever and SHARE. He beamed with pride when he announced to Mom he had gladly shared a wad of pink bubble gum with his 5 day old baby sister, Lynda, as she napped-REALLY!!!!!
From that day forward, Ray has honoured and kept his promised pledge for over 59 years. he shared hard and he shared true to form. He shared without resentment or jealousy. he shared with protection and pride for his little sister always.
He shared his hammy-down clothes, his brown skates, his favourite hockey stick, his boy bikes, his worn-in baseball glove, his
toy cars, his addidas bag, his billy-boots, we shared amazing adventures camping, taking spontaneous road trips and outdoor wilderness hikes. He shared his passion for gardening with me, patiently teaching me how to nurture the most wonderous flowers and seeds he transported each summer from his garden in Calgary to my garden in Montreal.
He shared his wild and unique sense of humour which proved contagious to anyone and everyone.
By example, he shared with me the importance for the "Love of Family"- the love of embracing the simplistic joys of relaxing at the lake, having late night campfires and enjoying the stars.
With me, he shared his happy-go-lucky times, he shared his tough and challenging times, he shared the very best of himself times his entire lifetime. Ray shared the love of loving me.
Today, the most generous gift my big brother, Ray, has ever SHARED with me is to share his truly amazing memory!
I share my admiration, pride and love for the best biggest brother ever,
Your baby sister, Lynda "Lyn" (only Ray could share my name this way)
It with a heavy heart that we have loss a precious loved one in all our lives ,who so easily made us all laugh and learn!
Ray was the big brother who always inspired me to be more informed, just by his own way and actions of how he approached life and challenging himself to know more. He was the smart bigger Bro, who showed me to keep challenging myself, not by telling me ,but by his subtle actions and ethic
He was also the funny one in the family, who had a witty, dry and sometimes borderline delivery(Banana Joke at my wedding) and he made light of life events about things we all thought, dare not say,but were not as bold as him to express!.
He had so many classic comments, jokes, expressions and mannerisms which keep us all laughing about to the point, where we are in awe of "where did that come from?"----but more importantly,he was so accurate in his assessment of life events, and his ability to make us all laugh about whatever the topic was of the day!
You are no longer with us- Ray, but you have left an impression in my life, my kids life's, you have also inspired me, and will continue to have us all laugh in thinking of you, wherever and whenever we are together, but especially at your favourite place around a campfire at our beloved cottage!
Love you and Miss you.
