October 7, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Dr. Arthur Dumont, noble explorer and best friend, passed away on Monday, October 7, 2019 at the age of 74 years.

Art was born in Whitewood, Saskatchewan on August 31, 1945.  He grew up on a farm near Kennedy, Saskatchewan. Art enjoyed his years in the mechanical engineering program at the University of Saskatchewan. Art & Bonnie were married after they both graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1967. They moved to Stettler, Alberta, where Art worked as a drilling engineer for Gulf Oil Canada.  He spent the early seventies working in the Arctic.  His love of this time is reflected though his passion for Native communities and their artwork. In 1975, Art accepted a job with Bawden Drilling which moved the family from Calgary, to Aberdeen, Scotland and then onto Houston, Texas.  He became Senior Vice-President of International Operations working in the UK, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Madagascar, and Peru. The family moved back to Calgary, when Art became Vice-President of Energy Services for Trimac Limited. Art also worked as CEO for Petro Well Energy Services, CenAlta Services, and Technicoil Corporation. Along with his distinguished career, Art was an avid volunteer. He served as a Board Member for the Julia McFarlane Diabetes Research Center, the Honens Int’l Piano Competition, the Calgary Petroleum Club, and the University of Saskatchewan.

Art was inducted into the Saskatchewan Oil & Gas Hall of fame in 2011 and was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 2012.

Art will be lovingly remembered by his wife Bonnie and their daughters, Lisa (Craig) and Melanie (Ted). He will also be missed by his five grandchildren, Ethan, Bryan, Ayva, Caitlin and Tyler. He is survived by six siblings, Denise, Alice, Yvette, Eugene, Eric, and Edgar. His beloved sister Clemence passed away in 2013.

A Celebration of Art’s Life will be held at the Calgary Golf and Country Club (5788 Station A, Calgary, AB) in early January. Condolences may be forwarded through www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
