Obituary of Edward Harold BANSER

February 1, 1940 - New Denver, British Columbia
October 8, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Edward Banser passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at the age of 79 years.

He was born in New Denver, British Columbia, Canada on February 1, 1940. His family then moved to Olds, Alberta in 1946. In 1953, he moved to Bonanza, Alberta to start working on the family homestead land with his brothers. In 1954 the family moved to Rolla, British Columbia. Edward graduated from Dawson Creek Senior High in 1958. After graduation, he moved to Edmonton, Alberta and started working for Gordon Riley Transport as a truck driver. Shortly after, he moved to Saskatchewan where he met his wife Dorothy Marie Lee. They were married July 26, 1960 in Edmonton and again in Rolla on July 30. From there they moved to Edmonton and then Sherwood Park, Alberta.

During these years Edward and Dorothy began their family and Edward also began his career with Richie Bros. Auctioneers. In 1976 Edward moved to Prince George, British Columbia with his family and opened the first Ritchie Bros. Yard in Prince George. In 1988 his career took them to Fort Worth, Texas, where he became the Vice President of the US South. In 2002 they retired in Metchosin, British Columbia and built a beautiful house on the ocean. In 2012 they moved to Calgary to be closer to family and lived out the rest of their days.

Edward was particularly proud of his family and his Ritchie Bros. career.

Edward enjoyed golfing, fishing, NASCAR, and was an avid Cowboys fan until the day he died. As well, he loved having fun with his family and friends.

Edward’s most memorable moments included having all his family in Texas for the summers, travelling with his entire family to Hawaii for his 60th birthday, and many other special trips with his children and grandchildren.
