Condolences
We were very saddened to hear of Gary Girling’s passing. Our thoughts & prayers are with Yvonne & her family.
Our deepest sympathy and love,
John & Joanne Gerlitz
I have so many fond memories of Uncle Gary, but what I remember above all else is that his was the sole voice telling me to go to West Point, a choice that changed the course of my life. He was proud of my accomplishment and I really felt his words of encouragement when he said he knew I could do it...and I knew it wasn't a platitude, he really meant it. His confidence and casual demeanor was always so reassuring. Everyone else eventually came around, but I'll always remember that he was the first to do so...with no apprehension or worry. I was so happy that he and Aunt Yvonne came to my graduation to celebrate such a significant moment in my life. But it has been so much more than that - they're always there for me and I'm so appreciative and grateful for their supportive presence in my life.
I also remember Uncle Gary's last trip to Hawaii...I'm so glad I hopped over from Oahu...it was a short, but wonderful visit in such a beautiful place. I'll carry this picture of Uncle Gary with me in my mind and heart - a beer in his hand, leaned back in a chair with crossed legs, an easy smile, and a beautiful sunset in the background.
