Obituary of Muriel COLLYER (nee Howarth)

September 18, 1922 – Bury, Lancashire, England            
October 7, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta    

On Monday, October 7, 2019, Muriel Constance Collyer, wonderful mother to two daughters, passed away at the age of 97.

Muriel was born on September 18, 1922 in Bury, Lancashire, England to Leslie and John Howarth. She was a wages clerk when she met and married her husband Alan Bibby, then became a shorthand and typing teacher. They raised two daughters until they sadly divorced in 1957. Then Muriel moved to Ripley, Surrey, England, where she became assistant to the Mayor of Guildford. She met her soulmate Dennis Collyer and married in 1971. When Dennis passed she moved to Cochrane, Alberta, to be with her girls. Muriel loved to volunteer. She enjoyed books so she was an avid library helper, and she joined the Rebekahs and the Canadian Legion to be able to do charity work. She had such a kind and compassionate spirit. She was "Grandma" in elementary school and was loved by the students she helped.  She had a passion for bowling and won many awards. She loved Yoga and Tai Chi, reading, and crosswords, but she also loved to travel. Most of all she loved her family and would do anything to help out.

She is survived by her daughters, Avril and Lynn (Sal), grandchildren, Jane (Mark), Tony (Oksana), Daniel (Celia); great-grandchildren, Kristen, Marissa, Saige, Bianca, Franca, Liliana; great-great-grandchildren, Sullivan and Noah, and several nieces and nephews.

Muriel was predeceased by her son Anthony John, her sister Majorie, and her husband Dennis. 

We would like to thank the caregivers at Staywell Manor for the great care they took of our beloved Mum particularly toward the end of her life.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Cochrane, 369 Railway Street, Cochrane, AB), on Sunday, November 3, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Foyer at the Funeral Home. Condolences may be forwarded through www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
