Obituary of Robert Ellis FITZGERALD

1957 – 2014 Our family said our last goodbyes to Rob on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at the South Health Campus. Although he was only 57, he had lived a full life. His roots were in Ontario but he remained a true Calgarian since he moved here with parents, Tom and Doreen and sisters, Cheryl and Cathy. Rob started his first family with Linda, when he was completing his Economics Degree. They were busy with three young children: Shane, Sarah, and Christa while Rob embarked on his career as a marketer in the steel business. Recognizing that he had so much more to offer, he returned to U of C and completed his MBA in 1989. During his return to university, he met and married Mary Peterson and together they expanded Rob’s family to include Mac and Shannon. The MBA launched Rob into the field of management consulting where his real talents were exemplified. Always bright and insightful, Rob had a genuine skill for communicating with people from all walks of life and a true passion for making things better. Last fall Rob was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma. He faced this challenge with the same courage and confidence he exuded in every aspect of life: embracing new trials and bravely bearing the devastating effects of his disease with graciousness. Special thanks to nurse Colette for being our angel in this time of need. In addition to his extended family Rob leaves in sadness his grandchildren Devin and Carter. He will join his mom Doreen in heaven where they can oversee the birth of two more – Shane and Alana’s twins. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church (1414 Shawnessy Boulevard S.W.) on Friday, August 15, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at Bowness Hall (7904 – 43 Avenue N.W.) on Saturday, September 13, 2014 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. RSVP to caogle@shaw.ca or robinfinley@gmail.com.
