Obituary of Alan Arthur Johnson

April 13, 1939 – Montreal, Quebec

August 19, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Alan Arthur Johnson, born on April 13, 1939, passed away on Monday, August 19, 2024, at the age of 85 years, leaving behind a rich legacy of love, service, and dedication to his family, faith, and community.

Alan was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, June (nee Mittlesteadt), and a proud father to his daughter, Cynthia (David), and sons, Keith (Lilia), and Mark. He was a cherished grandfather to Thomas, Natalie (Sarsons), and Stephanie, as well as a great-grandfather to little James. Alan's family meant the world to him, and he took great joy in watching them grow and thrive.

He had a long and successful career in the coal industry, Alan transitioned into public service and became a respected Member of Parliament. His commitment to his community and his passion for advocacy made a significant impact on the lives of many. After a very short retirement, he pursued numerous innovative and environmentally friendly uses for coal, leaving a lasting contribution to the field with the company he helped start, H Quest. Alan was also deeply involved with his church, Advent Lutheran, where he was a founding member. His faith was a guiding force throughout his life, and his dedication to his church community was unwavering.

Alan will be remembered for his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to those he loved. He had a unique ability to touch the hearts of those around him and was a rock to many. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In honouring Alan’s memory, his family asks that those who knew him carry forward his spirit of generosity, service, and love for others. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the hearts he inspired.
 

A Memorial Service to honour Alan's life will be held at Advent Lutheran Church (11 Scenic Acres Gate NW, Calgary, AB), on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Church Hall.
