Obituary of Albert O'Brien

March 31, 1930 – Richibucto, New Brunswick

August 26, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

 

Albert (Al) O'Brien passed away on Monday, August 26, 2024, at the age of 94 years in Calgary, AB. Beloved husband of the late Olive O’Brien and loving father of Allen O'Brien and Diane Sullivan.

 

Albert was born on March 31, 1930, in Richibucto, Kent County, NB, to the late Arthur and Suzanne O'Brien.

 

He was predeceased by his son Daniel O'Brien, mother Suzanne, father Arthur O'Brien, brothers, Emery, and Eddie O'Brien; and sisters, Alice Love and Mary Stebbing.

 

Albert will be missed by his nine grandchildren, Brendan, Justin, Amber, Andrew, Aaron, Christa, Colleen, Nolan, and Graham; his fourteen great-grandchildren, his sisters, Rosie O’Brien, Doris Vautour, and Anna Richard; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle, who was known for his generous heart, great smile, and sense of humour.

 

Albert was a skilled mechanic and graduated from SAIT. He was also a passionate outdoorsman, spending his free time hunting, fishing, and camping. He was an avid bluegrass music enthusiast and enjoyed playing banjo, harmonica, and guitar. One of his most memorable vacations was a trip to London, England with his wife, Olive.

 

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to AgeCare Midnapore staff – Sundance, for their exceptional care and for making Albert's days comfortable and enjoyable. We would also like to thank friends and family for their loving support during this difficult time. Albert will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Rest in peace, Albert; you will always hold a special place in our hearts.

 

A Memorial Service will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
