Obituary of Gerhard Herbert Gerling

Gerhard “Gerry” Gerling, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, November 25, 2024, at the age of 97 years.
Born on May 23, 1927, in Hocheim, Erfurt, Germany, Gerry was the son of Hans and Ellie Gerling. He worked as a steam engineer for several years before immigrating to Canada in April of 1958 where he spent 28 years as a power engineer with Alberta Wheat Pool.
In 1946, Gerry met Ursula Polex; they married, enjoying 50 years together.
Gerry retired at 62 and divided his time between winters in Yuma, Arizona, USA, and summers camping, singing in the St. Boniface Choir, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Gerry is survived by his children, Jerry and his wife Elfi, Cliff and his partner Astrid, and Sandi; grandchildren, Jesse, Chelsea, Dylan, Madison, Cody, and Dalanie; and great-grandchildren, Verity, Freya, Chloe, Halley, and Nash.
A Gathering will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street N, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 2:00 p.m.
