Obituary of Sylvia Mary Harris
October 20, 1933 – Saint John, New Brunswick
December 5, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
Sylvia Harris passed away on the evening of Thursday, December 5, 2024, surrounded by family and friends. At the time of her passing, she was a resident at Providence Care Centre where she received excellent, compassionate care for the last two years of her life.

Sylvia loved her family and friends. She was an accomplished artist and worked in several different mediums. She enjoyed dancing, traveling, knitting, art museums, British mysteries, daily Mass, the Rosary, and competitive Bridge. She was an avid collector of plates, hobby horses, and Jenni’s shoes, purses, scarves, pins, and gloves.
Sylvia is survived by her seven children and their partners: Evelyn Mary (Bradley), Sylvia Anne (Mark), Margaret Jennifer (Chris), Kathryn Elizabeth (David), Amy Theresa (Bryan), Franklin Lloyd Joseph Jr. (Penny), and Kelly Philip Milton; her grandchildren, Christopher (Ingrid), Emma (Brad), Sarah (Jordan), Daniel (Toccara), Patricia, Jacklyn (Dan), Michael (Miriam), Aaron (Alexis), Kevin (Aimee), Brandon, and Addison (Hailey); and her great-grandchildren, Parker, Rylie, Hailey, Bryr, Rowan, Isla, and Molly. She was predeceased by her grandson Philip in 2010.
Sylvia's husband, Franklin Lloyd Joseph, predeceased her in July 2000 and Sylvia remained close to his only sister, Marguerite May “Peggy” and her four sons and their families. Sylvia is also survived by her siblings, Emma, Freddie, and Louie; as well as her many nieces and nephews in New Brunswick.
Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at St. James Catholic Church (5504 – 20th Street S.W., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at 6:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. James Catholic Church (5504 – 20th Street S.W., Calgary, AB) on Friday, December 13, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Parish Hall.
