Obituary of Chester Hughie Shadbolt
June 28, 1937 – Eastern Passage, Nova Scotia
December 23, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
Shad Shadbolt, of Calgary, AB, passed away surrounded by family on Monday, December 23, 2024, at the age of 87 years.
Shad will be remembered most for his love, care, and loyalty to his family and friends.
Shad was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces for 35 years (1958-1993) and served his Regiment, Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) with pride, loyalty, and dedication. Shad retired with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer (RSM).
Left to cherish his memory are his son and daughter-in-law Fred and Heather of Saint John, NB; two daughters, Patti of Calgary, AB and Sharon of Calgary, AB; four grandchildren, Realene, Brandon, Tim, and Nick; and two great-grandchildren, Liam and Adalynn; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Shad was predeceased by his loving wife, Arlene Starr Shadbolt (nee Rowell); parents, George Shadbolt and Marjorie Shadbolt (nee Henneberry); three brothers, George, Merrill, and Tom; and his sister Midge.
The family would like to thank the nurses, healthcare workers and doctors at The Colonel Belcher for their compassion, care, and support.
Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to Hope for Dementia, www.hopefordementia.org or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
