Irvin retired from the Calgary Police Service after 33 ½ years in various departments of the CPS and became a long-time member of the Calgary Police Veterans Association.
As a volunteer, Irv helped in his Church (Abundant Life/Bethel Baptist), Camp Chestermere, The Parkinson’s Society of Southern Alberta, and as a community hockey coach. In 2006 he joined a team of volunteers to put in playground equipment for an underprivileged community in The Dominican Republic.
For many years Irv had enjoyed curling and being a sports fan of baseball, hockey and football. Irv loved to tell stories, whether about growing up on the farm near Erikson, Manitoba, his many jobs as well as a policeman, or his travels. His greatest joy, however, was his family and hearing about their accomplishments, whether in their studies, sports, careers, or spiritual lives.
